The Lord Jesus Christ said He was the Way, the Truth, and the Life. What did He mean, saying He was the Life?

John 6:53*Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you.

54*Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.

Why would He say the following to a disciple in Judea about the man's father?

Matthew 8:21*And another of his disciples said unto him, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father.

22*But Jesus said unto him, Follow me; and let the dead bury their dead.

23*And when he was entered into a ship, his disciples followed him.
