    Lightbulb Turkey approaching the brink..

    ÇANAKKALE (TURKEY) (AFP) -

Turkey's main opposition leader on Saturday begins hosting a four day "justice congress" in a bid to keep up the momentum from the success of a month-long foot march protesting against alleged injustices under President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Kemal Kilicdaroglu, head of the secular Republican People's Party (CHP), is holding the congress at an open-air site in the northwestern province of Canakkale, with sessions each day focusing on different rights violations in Turkey.

We'll see who ends up with the advantage. Secular forces, or Islamic ones.

I'm almost ready to bet on the latter, and I would if not for Turkey's history.

How much of Ataturk's legacy do you suppose remains today?

Apparently not enough to make a real difference. Turkey is going back to their Islamic roots.
Erdogan is wiping up the remains of the Turks who disagree.
At eighty million population, Turkey is big enough to to do a lot of harm in the M.E. and not a very good ally, except with their hand always out. They are now manufacturing a very good rifle, among other things.
In short, they are putting on some weight.

As long as Germany, France, Sweden and other European countries condone and even encourage radical Islam, Turkey will remain theocratic. I don't think Trump alone can impact it much though it would be great if he did.

If Merkel and Macron would at least show some backbone, it would help.
