    DLP's official Eurodance thread

Eurodance (sometimes known as Euro-NRG or Euro) is a genre of electronic dance music that originated in the late 1980s in Europe. It combines many elements of techno,[2] Hi-NRG,[1] house music[1] and Euro disco.[2]

This genre of music is heavily influenced by the use of rich melodic vocals, either exclusively by itself or inclusively with rapped verses. This, combined with cutting-edge synthesizer, strong bass rhythm and melodic hooks, establishes the core foundation of Eurodance music.[2] Eurodance production continues to evolve with a more modernized style.

I'm starting this thread so that we can relive all the amazing Eurodance hit songs that we used to listen to in the 1990s. Let's kick it off with It's a Rainy Day by Ice MC and The Real Thing by 2 Unlimited:

Ice MC (born Ian Campbell, March 22, 1965) is a British rapper best known for the '90s eurodance hits "Take Away the Colour", "Think About the Way" "and "It's a Rainy Day." The dance hits from Ice MC are most notable for being the first songs in the eurodance genre to blend raggamuffin style rap with female singing choruses. Italian producer Roberto Zanetti (a.k.a. Robyx) and his music team produced all of Ice MC's major hits while simultaneously producing other major '90s artists like Double You, Alexia, and Corona.

2 Unlimited is a dance act founded by Belgian producers Jean-Paul De Coster and Phil Wilde in 1991 in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Dutch rapper Ray Slijngaard and Dutch vocalist Anita Doth[1][3][4] fronted the act from 1991 to 1996. During the five years of 2 Unlimited's worldwide mainstream success, the act scored a total of 16 chart hits, including "Get Ready for This", "Twilight Zone", "No Limit", and "Tribal Dance".[3] They have sold 18 million records worldwide.[3]

Eurodance isn't really rap music, it's awesome European dance music that sometimes contains rapped verses.

Omen III by Magic Affair is an excellent example:

    Show you where
    Show you where
    Show you where

Do what you want, but think about the omen
A vision in your mind will lead your way
Go where you want, but don't forget the omen
A light at your side will show you where

    Omen... omen...

    Straight from the underground
Let me kick this quick, def mystic
In other words let the spirits get to you
Drop a spell, kinda like voodoo
Experience the power to be hold
Strong enough to make the space unfold
Eyes roll back with a signal -dead- I'm ready
    Nightmares, kinda like Freddy
Please to present the knowledge of the mind
To make you dance intellect combined
It's time for the pro to go to work
Droppin' bombs as you get beserk
Trancin', trancin', buggin' like a mother while you're dancin'
Just a taste of something to get with
Why? Cause my ways are mystic

Do what you want, but think about the omen
A vision in your mind will lead your way
Go where you want, but don't forget the omen
A light at your side will show you where

    Omen... omen...

    Black by historical demand
The lyrical miracle, known as the prodigal
Look in my eyes and all you see is darkness
Wait a second watch as the sparks get
Bright enough to light a pass to a new zone
Dance as the beat keeps on
    Mesmerizing, with my voice rising
Can't control the way I'm hypnotising
People in the house to make you move
Hip hoppin' in a trance type groove
    Barriers of thought are broken
    Magical my practical skills smokin'
Heat it up, heat it up, give me the mike and watch the AK beat it up
A little taste of something to get with
Why? Cause my ways are mystic
    Cause my ways are mystic
    Cause my ways are mystic

Do what you want, but think about the omen
A vision in your mind will lead your way
Go where you want, but don't forget the omen
A light at your side will show you where

    Play it back!

Do what you want, do what you need
Do what you want, do what you need

    Omen...

Do what you want, but think about the omen
A vision in your mind will lead your way
Go where you want, but don't forget the omen
A light at your side will show you where

Now let's take a look at the excellent Italian music group Eiffel 65 whose Eurodance megahit Blue took the world by storm:

Considering the Eternal Significance of Eiffel 65’s “Blue (Da Ba Dee)”

Why this Italian Eurodance song from 1999 is an anthem for the death of progress in the face of human antipathy.

Eiffel 65 is an Italian music group consisting of Jeffrey Jey, Maurizio Lobina and Gabry Ponte. They gained global popularity with their hit singles "Blue (Da Ba Dee)" and "Move Your Body", from their 1999 studio album Europop. The singles reached number one in many countries, while the album peaked at number four on the Billboard 200 chart. Their following two albums, Contact! and a self-titled album, were released in 2001 and 2003 respectively.

Over the course of their career, the group won a World Music Award in 2000 for the World Best Selling Italian Group, and a B.M.I U.S.A in Los Angeles, rewarding the most-broadcast song on radio in the United States. They were also nominated at the Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording for "Blue (Da Ba Dee)".[1] Europop was crowned as the greatest album of the 1990s by Channel 4.[2]
